In the announcement, Walker Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, David Gallant paid tribute to their late founder Lang Walker AO, whose vision will transform Blacktown into a new world-class city centre for Western Sydney.
“Lang was passionate about Walker delivering a new town centre for Blacktown linking people-friendly spaces with thousands of new jobs, healthcare and learning opportunities and his vision has become our reality,” Mr Gallant said.
The residents of Blacktown will also have the opportunity to have their say in an online survey to provide input into what they want their future city centre to look like.
Over the coming months Walker and Blacktown City Council will collaborate to deliver a series of popup community feedback sessions in the CBD, along with selected locations throughout the wider city, to enable hundreds of thousands the opportunity to contribute to this important initiative.
Blacktown City Council Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM said the Council is thrilled to welcome Blacktown Quarter to their city centre.
“We know Blacktown Quarter will transform and energise our city centre, bringing huge economic and social benefits for the people of Blacktown and Western Sydney,” Mayor Bleasdale said.
“Local businesses will flourish and thousands of jobs will be created. We encourage everyone to take a look and add your voice as Walker Corporation helps us build a brighter future for our city.”
Walker Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer David Gallant revealed a new artist’s impression of the future CBD which will mix premium commercial office space, education and health with restaurants, retail and the largest public domain in Sydney.
“The Walker and Blacktown City Council teams have been working hard on our vision for Blacktown Quarter to create vibrant, energised spaces through great architecture, careful placemaking and state-of-the-art facilities,” Mr Gallant said.
“We are excited to be out and about talking to the community over the coming months where our team will get vital input from locals to ensure our masterplan caters to the needs of both current and future Blacktown generations.”
Blacktown consists of 54 residential suburbs, home to over 395,000 people, making it the largest city by population in NSW and representing around 188 birthplaces and 182 different languages. Half the population is under 35 years of age.
The Blacktown Quarter development will deliver more than 1,000 construction jobs over five years and permanently add more than 4,500 jobs and over $1B annually to the city’s local economy.
