Called Cleopatra, the truck carries our Council mowers and tractors - replacing two ageing diesel trucks and two trailers.
Cleopatra does not require expensive diesel fuel. Council has also removed the maintenance challenges of having four separate vehicles and greatly reduced the total cost of ownership.
Our staff worked directly with Volvo Group Australia and body manufacturer Austec Fabrications to design and produce the vehicle.
One of the features I like most is the onboard solar panel. This powers a battery dedicated to the retractable ramp, used to load and unload machinery.
Electric power means the truck is quieter and minimises disturbance to our community.
I am not the only one impressed. LG Professionals recently named Council the winner of its Asset and Infrastructure Award for Cleopatra.
A great result for our community and Council.
The Living Hub supports people living with hidden disabilities
Many of us know someone living with dementia, or have a friend caring for a loved one living with the condition.
Dementia is increasingly common, and a reason why Council worked with Dementia Australia to create The Living Hub at Max Webber Library, Blacktown.
People living with dementia and other hidden disabilities, along with their carers, can meet others and enjoy socialising in this supportive environment.
The Living Hub has been carefully designed and includes items to prompt memories and stimulate the senses, such as memory boxes, robotic therapy animals and an interactive games table.
There are regular walking and social groups to keep minds and bodies active, and plans for art and music therapy.
Our libraries are about more than books and study. Our libraries help people of all abilities connect with community.
This is why The Living Hub is important. It ensures people living with hidden disabilities have opportunities to connect with others.
Thanks to the State Library of NSW for the grant making this possible.
Football festival continues at live site
Plenty of people have enjoyed watching the action at our World Cup Live Site at Blacktown Football Park, Rooty Hill, including a strong turnout for recenbt game.
Keep an eye on Council’s social media pages for more screenings.
My thanks to the Blacktown District Soccer Football Association for helping make the site a success.
