Chris Bowen was joined by Blacktown State MP, Stephen Bali, where the tour started with the first cuppa with George in Laneway next to Australian Catholic University (ACU) Blacktown Campus.
ACU Blacktown Campus Dean, Professor Valentine Mukuria proudly showed off the state-of-the-art campus including nursing facility with life like mannequins programmed to simulate real life crisis scenarios through to the moot law courts where law students practice putting forward their legal arguments.
ACU hosted a community leaders roundtable including Blacktown SydWest Elfa Moraitakis & Clement Meru; Relationships Australia Elisabeth Shaw & Kerrie McFadden; Blacktown Police Acting Inspector Ashley Keegan; Kids Help Line Carolyn Elmo & Leo Hede; Macquarie Community College Theresa Collignon; LEAD Professional Services Sharmily Nagarsekar; Hellenic Greek Orthodox Community Dr Vlasios Brakoulias; and Aid Foundation Satish Kumar.
Roundtable discussions included the strengths within the community and opportunities to tackle the challenges particularly with cost of living, mental health, and domestic violence.
Blacktown CBD businesses provided a positive reception amongst the many cafe, restaurants, and retail shops.
Lunch was at Le Viet Bistro in the downstairs Central Hotel with Andrew and Kelly who offer classic pub food as well as Vietnamese delicacies. Michelle Rowland MP Federal Member for Greenway, joined in meeting with the many of the café owners.
Chris met with Ali Badran from Prime and Pure, one of Western Sydney’s largest jewellery manufacturer with a shop front located in Blacktown.
Mr Bowen said: “What a wonderful community with warm hearted people with fantastic multicultural food offerings through to many great retail services.”
“I look forward to representing the people of Blacktown in the Federal Parliament together with my colleagues Michelle Rowland (Greenway) and Ed Husic (Chifley) and working closely with council and Stephen Bali (Blacktown State MP).”
