The musical comes to town with a limited Sydney season at The Coliseum, Rooty Hill, expected to be one of the highlights of the production's national tour.
Following a successful season in Perth earlier this year, producer Drew Anthony has confirmed the acclaimed musical will travel to Melbourne and Sydney during September and October, marking the show's long-awaited return to Australian stages.
While the production will first play Melbourne's Athenaeum Theatre from 16 September to 11 October before a short run at the Sydney Event Centre from 15 to 18 October, Western Sydney audiences will have the opportunity to experience the spectacle at The Coliseum Theatre, Rooty Hill, from 22 to 25 October.
Based on the classic 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot follows the legendary quest of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table in a wildly entertaining musical packed with outrageous humour, Broadway-style production numbers and unforgettable songs.
Featuring a book and lyrics by Monty Python's Eric Idle and music by John Du Prez and Idle, the production includes audience favourites such as Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, Find Your Grail and The Song That Goes Like This.
Premiering on Broadway in 2005, Spamalot received 14 Tony Award nominations and won three awards, including Best Musical, cementing its reputation as one of the world's most successful comedy musicals.
Producer Drew Anthony said he was delighted to return the production to Australian audiences.
"After celebrating 20 years since the original production last year, it is a great honour to restore Monty Python's Spamalot to Australian stages for fans who have longed for its return and for new audiences to discover the Knights of the Round Table for the first time," he said.
The Rooty Hill season is expected to attract theatre lovers from across Greater Western Sydney, with The Coliseum continuing to strengthen its reputation as one of the region's premier performing arts venues by hosting major national productions.
Casting details will be announced in coming months, with tickets now on sale. Recommended for audiences aged 12 years and over, the production promises a hilarious night of music, satire and classic Monty Python absurdity.
