COUNCIL OFFERING SANDBAGS TO RESIDENTS
BLACKTOWN City Council and the State Emergency Service (SES) are providing sandbags to help residents prepare for heavy rain and possible flooding over the next few days.
Blacktown City is forecast to receive up to 110 mm of rain on Friday and Council staff have been busy filling sandbags so residents can protect their properties from localised flooding. Up to 40 mm of rain is forecast for Saturday.
Residents who need sandbags should first call the SES on 132 500 to arrange pickup from a local SES collection point.
Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM said Council and the SES were working together to minimise the impact of the downpour on residents.
“Council staff and SES volunteers will be working proactively to try and ensure the safety of our residents and protect
properties,” he said.
“I encourage people to follow the advice of the SES and want to wish our local volunteers good luck for what may be a busy time.”
Residents can monitor Council’s Disaster Dashboard on www.blacktown.nsw.gov.au.
The SES is encouraging people to prepare by cleaning gutters, moving cars from underneath trees and trimming branches.
Motorists are urged not to drive through flooded roads.
People can download the Hazards Near Me app for the latest warnings and information.
Those who require assistance with storms and flooding can call the SES on 132 500. For life threatening emergencies, call 000.
