As a lifelong Mount Druitt resident, I am truly grateful for the opportunity to lead and serve this big, culturally diverse area so many people choose to call home.
Congratulations to the highly experienced Councillor Bob Fitzgerald OAM who was elected Deputy Mayor.
This term will be an exciting time. I am keen to see Council’s partner for the Blacktown Quarter project, Walker Corporation, progress our vision to reinvigorate Blacktown town centre.
This project aims to stimulate the economy and will generate 1,000 construction jobs and 4,500 permanent jobs to the town centre.
I am excited by the seven transformational projects in the works, funded by the NSW Government’s $2 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program.
These are wonderful community projects – they include a new Seven Hills Portal Community Hub and First Nations Cultural Hub at Mount Druitt.
There will be upgrades for the Blacktown Aquatic Centre, Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre, Mount Druitt Swimming Centre, Mount Druitt Hub and for PCYC Mount Druitt.
I also want to make sure Council continues to deliver essential services well.
Providing quality childcare, library services, roads and more are staple functions that must be reliable and delivered consistently.
I am confident the Councillors elected by you, who offer a mix of experience and fresh perspective, will prove an effective team in fulfilling these aims.
I will continue to listen to your views on how we can make Blacktown City even better and look forward to seeing you at a community event or pop-up forum soon.
Council is Sustainable Cities Winner
I was thrilled to learn that Blacktown City Council was named ‘Overall Sustainable Cities Winner’ for 2024 at the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW awards this month. This was truly a community effort.
Blacktown Arts won the heritage and culture category for its Makers Space project with First Nations artist Tarni Eastwood.
Council won the communication and engagement category for its waste management project after a great response from people living in apartments and units.
I’m also excited that a local school, Caddies Creek Public School in Glenwood, was highly commended in the Young Legends category. Non-profit group Communities in Fellowship
Together was a finalist in waterways protection. It is heartening to see so many people taking pride in where we live and making the effort to look after our environment.
Congratulations everyone.
