CRICKET CARNIVAL TO MARK INDIAN TOUR

Special events to celebrate national tour
BLACKTOWN MAYOR, Brad Bunting
SUMMER is almost here and for cricket fans, Council is planning a special event to celebrate the Indian mens and womens teams’ tour of Australia.

Cricket Mela (a Hindi word meaning ‘fair’ or ‘festival’) will offer action, cultural performances, children’s activities and more at Blacktown International Sports Park on Sunday 8 December.

There will be traditional Indian food as well as big screens to watch Australia playing India on day 3 of the Adelaide Test.

NSW Premier Chris Minns will be there to captain a Premier’s XI team that will take on my Mayor’s XI. Let’s see if I can hit
him for six!

Blacktown City has a large Indian community and I am keen to continue the great relationship between our countries through our love of cricket.

Council is working with the NSW Government, the Centre for Australian India Relations, Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW to make the day a success.

See the Council website for more details.

Green thumbs up for gardeners

It was my pleasure to congratulate the winners of the Blacktown City Garden Competition this month.

This long-running competition always attracts plenty of interest from residents proud of their carefully curated gardens.

This year a number of schools entered the competition and it’s heartening to see children learning about the natural world.
Council continues to encourage gardening and its many benefits. It’s an active, outdoor activity that  is great for the body and soul, it’s good for our environment, and it beautifies our suburbs.

Plant giveaways and free environmental workshops are just some of the ways Council helps our community realise these benefits.

Thank you to all the keen gardeners for keeping Blacktown City looking good.

Have a safe and happy Christmas

As we move towards the end of the year, many of us will reflect on 2024 and look forward to the year ahead.

I am grateful to have been re-elected Mayor of this wonderfully diverse and thriving community, and am keen to see more of you in 2025 and make Blacktown City an even better place.

While many of us are looking forward to the holidays, I know Christmas can be challenging for others. If this applies to you, please contact Council to learn about the many services that may help you.

Thank you for your support this year. I hope you have a merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.
