Held on December 18, International Migrants Day is a day dedicated to recognising the invaluable contributions of migrants and the richness they bring to our society.
Migration has shaped Australia’s identity for generations. In Greater Western Sydney – one of the most culturally diverse regions in the country – this diversity shines brightly where 88% of residents speak a language other than English, in some suburbs.
In the past year alone, SydWest delivered 11,424 sessions to 3,760 clients through Women and Family programs, creating safe and empowering spaces for women and children to flourish.
These programs include playgroups, women’s support groups, digital literacy training, and initiatives that strengthen family relationships and children’s development.
“Belonging is at the heart of everything we do,” says Elfa Moraitakis, CEO of SydWest.
“Every program we deliver is about creating spaces where people feel valued and supported. On International Migrants Day, we celebrate the resilience and achievements of migrant women and families who enrich our communities every day.”
Founded in 1985 as the Blacktown Migrant Resource Centre, SydWest Multicultural Services is a leading organisation supporting refugees, migrants, and culturally diverse communities across Greater Western Sydney.
For 40 years, SydWest has delivered settlement services, aged care, disability support, youth programs, and women & family initiatives that foster inclusion, independence, and belonging.
Their mission is to create a society where all people have equal opportunities to grow and thrive.
