SARINA, 13 and Prisha, 15 presented their Bharatnatyam Arangetram on June 29 at Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre in presence of family friends and dance enthusiasts as well as various community leaders and dignitaries.

This landmark recital was by Nartan Institute of Performing Arts (NIPA), run by the students and supporters of this dancing family of Blacktown Council.

The Arangetram, which translates to "ascending the stage," marks the first public performance of a classical dancer after years of rigorous training and practice.

Under the tutelage of Guru Smt Kanan Shah, Sarjna-Prisha has honed their skills in Bharatnatyam, demonstrating a deep understanding of the intricate techniques, rhythms, and expressive storytelling that define this traditional art form.

The event was graced by the presence of Chris Bowen, Minister of Climate Change and Energy; Lord Mayor of Penrith, Todd Carney; Ms Niyati Mehta, Director of Vivekanand Cultural Centre, Consulate General of India; Councillor Susai Benjamin; Councillor Suman Saha; many community leaders and supporters, family of Sarjna and Prisha who flew in from overseas, friends, and well-wishers who praised Sarjna-Prisha for their dedication and artistry. In her address, Guru Kanan Shah expressed pride in Sarjna-Prisha’s journey and accomplishments.

These young Aussie-Indian girls expressed heartfelt gratitude to their guru, family, and friends for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout their dance journey.

The stage was supported by a talented team of musicians: Shri Rucha Lange, Shri Maharshi Raval, Shri Satvik Desai, Shri Sabin Ghising, and Shri Nishant Solanki, with Ranjith providing PA support. The emcees included Krina, Veda, Dhwiti, Riona, and the light and special effects production was managed by Sireesha. Rangoli was by Nimisha, henna by Rachana, decorations by Aravinda, and hair and makeup by Ratna. The entire event was captured on video and photos by Venkatesh Babu.

A comment from a viewer: "Seated in the first row it was goosebump experience and I loved the atmosphere.  A big applause to your leadership and commendable stage presence. I must say I witnessed perfectionism from the girls either it be forms , mudras , or body posture , eyes movements all blended seamlessly. Kudos to all the hard work as a dancer I know how long it takes to come to this place.”

The successful completion of the Arangetram signifies not just a personal achievement for Sarjna-Prisha but also contributes to the ongoing celebration and preservation of Bharatnatyam.
