The project includes two new operating theatres, expected to be completed in 2027, boosting surgical capacity and helping reduce pressure on existing services.
The Blacktown upgrade forms part of the NSW Government's $120M investment to deliver 60 additional beds across Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals.
Construction at Mount Druitt Hospital is expected to begin in the coming months after FDC Construction (NSW) Pty Ltd was appointed to deliver 30 new beds, with completion scheduled for late 2027.
The additional capacity is designed to improve patient flow, strengthen emergency care and support hospital staff as demand for healthcare continues to grow across Western Sydney.
The investment is part of the NSW Government's broader commitment to deliver 2,500 additional hospital beds and treatment spaces across the state.
Other Western Sydney projects include 18 additional specialty beds at Westmead Hospital through a $38M investment, supporting respiratory, cardiology and emergency short-stay services.
The hospital expansion also sits within the Government's $11.9Bhealth infrastructure program, which will deliver 32 new or upgraded hospitals over four years. Major projects include the $910 million Rouse Hill Hospital, $2B Bankstown Hospital redevelopment, $630 million Fairfield Hospital redevelopment, and the $400M Canterbury Hospital redevelopment.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car said the investment was helping address the healthcare needs of the region's rapidly growing population.
"We're getting on with the job of delivering better hospital infrastructure so local families can continue accessing the care they need, close to home," she said.
Health Minister Ryan Park said the additional beds would improve patient flow and relieve pressure on busy hospital services.
"More beds, more services, more staff in our hospitals. That's exactly what Western Sydney needs and exactly what we're delivering," he said.
Member for Blacktown Stephen Bali welcomed the progress, saying the additional beds would benefit both patients and hospital staff, while Member for Mount Druitt Edmond Atalla said the project represented a significant investment in improving healthcare across the region.
Once complete, the additional beds and operating theatres will help meet growing demand for health services while improving access to timely care for communities across Blacktown, Mount Druitt and the wider Western Sydney region.
