And I want to hear what you think. One exciting project will expand the Mount Druitt PCYC centre so more young people can be active and engaged.
The plans include two multipurpose indoor courts, a youth hub for meeting space, a new reception and bathrooms.
Council will also expand the Mount Druitt Library and Community Hub to meet expanding demand from our growing community.
A two-storey wing will offer a children’s library and play area, study spaces and more rooms for meetings and functions.
We also have draft designs for a Seven Hills Community Hub. We are planning for the Boomerang Place venue to include a library, a recording studio for creative projects, meeting rooms and more.
Please see the Have Your Say page on Council’s website to learn details and tell us your views.
I am hoping Council can start building these projects next year. Thanks to the NSW Government for the funding, part of the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program.
Outstanding women honoured
I was delighted to award the Blacktown City Woman of the Year honour to Oakhurst nurse Melissa Katoa at Council’s International Women’s Day Breakfast in March.
Melissa assists women to live independently through her efforts with the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
We also unveiled a wonderful book containing profiles of 25 remarkable women in Western Sydney.
‘Women of Blacktown 2025’ was a collaborative effort between Council, Australian Catholic University Blacktown Campus and 2024 Blacktown City Woman of the Year Emie Roy.
You can find the book at Blacktown City Libraries.
Walking to support mental health care
I will take part in a fun event at Blacktown International Sportspark next month to raise money for Quakers Hill charity Breed Australia and its mental health programs.
The Step Into Action Walk Festival is on 12 and 13 April and offers 10km, 50km and 100km walking challenges.
