THE Law Council of Australia has warned that the Independent Children’s Lawyer (ICL) system is at breaking point, with rising demand and inadequate funding threatening support for vulnerable children in family law disputes. ICLs represent children facing family violence, abuse and neglect, but a shortage of lawyers and funding shortfall exceeding $80 million is causing delays. The Law Council is urging the Federal Government to act urgently to protect children’s access to justice and safety.
