COUNCIL RESPONDS TO SBS DECISION
The following statement was issued by Blacktown City Council.
"RECENT media reports that the Australian Government has advised staff at the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) that it will not proceed with previously announced plans for SBS offices in Western Sydney.
The news regarding SBS is disappointing for Western Sydney, but we are hopeful it is a temporary setback.
We are pleased to read reports that a bid by Walker Corporation for SBS to be located in Blacktown city centre was regarded favourably.
Blacktown City has a vibrant, diverse population of 450,000 people, right in the heart of multicultural Western Sydney.
With early work on Blacktown Quarter now underway, we are excited at the enormous benefits that a $2.5 billion investment in our city centre will generate. It will create 4,500 jobs and generate $1 billion in economic activity every year.
We look forward further announcements regarding Blacktown Quarter very soon."
